Course description

Programme Overview: In today’s world, effective training is more essential than ever, and trainers are under greater pressure to demonstrate their value. This three-day fast-track course is designed to equip experienced trainers with the knowledge and skills needed to provide engaging, interactive, and effective training.

For experienced trainers

Course Objective and Assessment: Participants will plan and deliver a training session that will be evaluated against the TAP® Training Delivery Assessment Criteria. It is important to note that the assessment may be deferred if the course is conducted virtually.

Course Content: The course includes pre-course and evening reading, five sessions covering the TAP® training delivery methodology, and each participant will prepare and deliver a training session on a topic of their choice, which will be assessed by the course tutor.

Prerequisites: This fast-track course is suitable for trainers with at least six months of experience who wish to confirm and formalize their skills and knowledge with an internationally recognized qualification. No prior qualifications in training are required.

Less experienced trainers should consider attending the “Training Delivery Skills for New Trainers” course.

Participants are recommended to bring their laptops; however, other arrangements can be made if needed.

Assessment Information: Participants will learn:

  • How to structure and prepare a learning event
  • How to deliver an interactive learning experience
  • Questioning skills
  • How to establish and maintain confidence and credibility
  • Selecting and using learning methods and training aids

Session 1: Training vs. Presenting

  • Differences between training and presenting
  • The AGES model and its implications for trainers delivering learning

Session 2: Training Session Structure

  • How to start a session effectively
  • Clarity on outcomes
  • Setting a route map for the session
  • Identifying learners’ prior experience
  • Building clear and well-structured content
  • Efficiently and interactively delivering content
  • Reinforcing key learning points
  • Reviewing learners’ progress
  • Adapting approach if necessary
  • Reviewing and concluding a session.

Session 3: Learning Objectives and Assessments

  • Creating clear and concise learning objectives that include the three essential elements
  • Ensuring that the three elements support each other and are aligned with the overall learning goal
  • Developing effective assessment strategies to determine whether learners have achieved the learning objective

Session 4: Balancing Trainer/Learner Activity

  • Encouraging learner participation through interactive activities and group discussions
  • Using questions to facilitate learners’ own insights and to encourage them to take responsibility for their learning
  • Signposting the structure and progress of the learning session and addressing delegate questions effectively

Session 5: Trainer Delivery Style

  • Delivering training with credibility, confidence, and enthusiasm to engage learners
  • Creating a positive and participative learning climate that supports learners’ engagement and motivation
  • Providing praise and recognition to learners for their efforts to encourage continued participation
  • Utilizing training aids effectively to enhance learning outcomes
  • Coaching learners when necessary to promote personal growth and development
  • Asking appropriate questions at the right time and for the right reason to facilitate learners’ understanding and retention of the material.

For new trainers

Prerequisites: This course is for trainers who are new to training or have been delivering training for less than six months and wish to formalize their skills and knowledge with a recognized qualification. No prior qualifications in training are required.

Participants are recommended to bring their laptops; however, other arrangements can be made if needed.

Assessment Information: Participants will learn:

  • How to structure and prepare for a learning event
  • Delivering an interactive learning experience
  • Questioning skills
  • How to establish and maintain confidence and credibility
