Membership
The Linux Professional Institute membership program launched in 2020. As a member, all your professional level certifications are extended for the duration of your membership. Members submit claims for PDUs (professional development units) in order to maintain their eligibility for membership (and subsequently extend their certifications) by demonstrating that they have been growing and using their skills.
Learning Materials
Linux Professional Institute (LPI) started its Learning initiative in 2019 by publishing the first Learning Materials on learning.lpi.org. As a supplement to specialist books from publishers or other platforms, the Learning Materials are designed for intensive preparation for their respective LPI exams. The Learning Materials for each exam are organized around the same categories as that exam and cover the relevant topics. These topics are published on the LPI wiki.
Vendor Neutrality
The biggest difference between LPI and other Linux certification programs is that our exams are completely vendor independent and distribution neutral. This helps you prove your skills across distributions to give you the flexibility to work in a wide range of environments. Vendor-specific programs test only on their own distribution of Linux.
